FAQ
What is the Texas License to Carry (LTC), and who needs it?
A Texas LTC allows Texans to carry concealed handguns legally. It’s ideal for those seeking added legal protections and reciprocity with other states.
What’s the difference between constitutional carry and Texas LTC?
Texas Constitutional carry allows unlicensed carry under certain conditions. A Texas LTC provides added benefits like legal protection, wider carry areas, and interstate reciprocity.
Why should I get my Texas LTC if Texas allows unlicensed carry?
A Texas LTC offers benefits like more carry locations, legal protections, and recognition in other states—advantages that unlicensed carry doesn’t provide. In addition, when purchasing a firearm in the state of Texas as a Texas resident with a Tx LTC, the LTC can be used as your background check for your form 4473 instead of needing a NICS check.
What firearms training does Guardians' Arms offer?
We offer the online and in person Texas LTC classs, online Constitutional Carry Class, Basic Pistol Class, Basic Rifle Class, Concealed Carry of a Weapon Class, Range Safety Officer, and custom training options.
How do I sign up for the online Texas LTC class?
Visit our website’s course section, select the Online Texas LTC Class, and follow the sign-up instructions to get started.
Can I complete the Texas LTC class entirely online?
Yes and No! The classroom portion of the course can be completed online, allowing for a flexible and convenient way to get your LTC class completion form. After that, you will need to complete the shooting qualification with a Tx DPS certified LTC Instructor. And whether you took our online class, or an online class somewhere else, we’d be happy to get you to the range to qualify.
What are the age requirements for Texas LTC?
The minimum age for Texas LTC is 18. You must be 21 years of age or older to legally exercise your rights to carry under Texas Unlicensed (Constitutional) Carry though.
Is formal training required for constitutional carry in Texas?
Formal training is not required for constitutional carry, but Guardians’ Arms highly recommends it for safety and legal awareness. We do offer a Constitutional Carry class online.
What skills are taught in your Basic Rifle Class?
This class covers everything from the parts of a rifle, the parts of a cartridge/bullet, rifle safety, marksmanship fundamentals, proper handling, maintenance, and shooting techniques.
Are there any legal protections with a Texas LTC that constitutional carry doesn’t offer?
Yes, an LTC provides stronger legal defense in self-defense cases and may ease legal processes after a firearm incident.
How do I know if Texas LTC reciprocity applies in other states?
Check the Texas DPS website for reciprocity details, as many states honor Texas LTC for travel convenience. Click Here!!
Why is firearms safety training important for unlicensed carry?
Training ensures responsible firearm handling, safe usage in public, and understanding of Texas laws for unlicensed carriers.
What is included in the Range Safety Officer class?
Our RSO class covers safety protocols, range management, emergency handling, and skills for supervising safe shooting practices.
How do firearms transfers work at Guardians' Arms?
We handle legal transfers between buyers and sellers, ensuring compliance with state and federal firearms regulations. We are signed up with several major sellers and are constantly getting on board with new ones. If we are a dealer on their network, select Guardians’ Arms as your FFL. If we are not, email us at ffl@guardiansarms.com and we will get the necessary documentation taken care of. When your item(s) arrive we will contact you and set up an appointment for you to come do the transfer. A transfer is the same as when you purchase a firearm from a brick and mortar store. You fill out an ATF form 4473, we perform a background check and when you are approved you’re good to go. Our transfer fees are as follows:
$25 for customers without a Tx LTC
$15 for customers with a Tx LTC, or are in the military or are a LEO or first responder. Can I take both the LTC and Constitutional Carry classes?
Absolutely! You may take both classes to understand each method of carrying and gain broader firearm safety knowledge. However, if you take the LTC class and get your license, the unlicensed rules no longer apply to you. We recommend getting an LTC for the added protections and education. At least until we get true Constitutional Carry.
What equipment do I need for the Basic Rifle Class?
You’ll need a rifle, eye and ear protective gear, and approximately 250 rounds of factory ammunition; we’ll provide the details and safety requirements during registration.
Does Guardians' Arms offer private firearms training?
Yes, we offer custom, private training tailored to individual skills and objectives, ensuring a personalized learning experience.
How do I schedule a custom firearms training course?
Contact us via our website, email or message us on Facebook to discuss your training goals, and we’ll arrange a course that meets your needs.
What are the legal restrictions on carrying firearms in Texas without an LTC?
Some places restrict unlicensed carry, like schools and government buildings. An LTC offers more carrying privileges in Texas.
Why choose Guardians' Arms for Texas firearms training?
While we’re relatively new kids on the block, Guardians’ Arms provides expert, personalized training in a safe and supportive environment, designed to meet all experience levels. We won’t try to sell you a firearm or training that isn’t right for you. We are not driven by commissions because we know that if the gun you have isn’t right for you, or you’re not confident in your abilities with it, you won’t carry it. We want YOU to get what is best for YOU.
