If you want to become a certified Range Safety Officer (RSO), the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Class is a great place to begin. This course provides the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to plan, run, and supervise safe shooting events and range operations. This class is crucial whether your range calls for more responsibility or you want to improve your safety knowledge.
What the RSO Class Will Teach You
Designed for persons 21 and above. The course runs roughly nine hours. You will cover classroom instruction as well as hands-on learning at a shooting facility. The RSO Class focuses on several key areas:
- Roles and Responsibilities of an RSO: You’ll learn what’s expected of you while overseeing range activities.
- Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Understanding how to manage a safe shooting range is a core part of the training.
- Range Inspection and Safety Briefings: These skills ensure that every shoot starts and ends safely.
- Emergency Procedures: Preparation for unexpected events is crucial for any RSO.
- Firearm Stoppages and Malfunctions: Learn how to safely and effectively deal with firearm issues that may arise.
